The Legendary Zugtrail in Vinschgau Valley
Glurns - Prad - Latsch - Naturns
The Zugtrail, one of the most renowned mountain bike routes in the Vinschgau Valley, leads from Glurns along the Nördersberg mountain via numerous technical trails. This tour offers an exciting alternative to the Via Claudia Augusta in the valley floor.
The starting point is Glurns, Europe's smallest town with intact medieval walls. After leaving the Taufers Gate, a first climb (120 m) leads to St. Martin's Church. The subsequent trail (path no. 9) leads to the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle, offering spectacular views and technical passages.
After the castle and a quick descent, an asphalt climb leads to the Lichtenberg farms. The next trail section with switchbacks leads to Prad. Via the Nick Cross and St. Ottilia Chapel (ideal rest stop), the route continues to Tschengels.
The challenging path no. 3 (partially pushing required) leads to Laas. From here, the route continues via the Spiesshof and Wiebenhof farms to the final trail section. Via the Aigen trail, you finally reach Morter.
- Starting point: Glurns (accessible by Vinschgau train)
- Difficulty: challenging
- Characteristics: technical trails, forest roads, short asphalt sections
- Highlights: Medieval Glurns, Lichtenberg Castle ruins, panoramic views
Tip: If tired, you can switch to the parallel Via Claudia Augusta in the valley at any time.
