Uphill to Leiter Alm from Vellau

A challenging uphill ride starting in Algund, climbing via Vellau and Oberplatzer to the Leiter Alm. Riders are rewarded with magnificent views over Merano and the surrounding mountains.

Trail conditions: Mostly paved road with some gravel and forest sections. Steep to very steep gradients, several tight switchbacks, and a few smoother “flowy” segments. Some crossings with hiking trails – ride carefully.

Route description:

  • Start in the center of Algund.
  • Follow the cycle path briefly towards Töll/Val Venosta.
  • Turn off towards Vellau on the main road.
  • Continue uphill to Oberplatzer.
  • From here, a gravel road leads up to the Leiter Alm (approx. 1150 m of elevation gain from Algund).
